Some questions on my motherboard and upgrading CPU processor speed
Hello again,
I have a few questions regarding upgrading CPU's on my motherboard. Currently i have a Tyan Tiger S2466N motherboard. I talked to the tech guys and they said i couldn't go higher than a 2600+ cpu processor. I thought i might get some feedback from you guys because maybe it's still possible to go with a higher speed cpu. Thanks.

Re: Some questions on my motherboard and upgrading CPU processor speed
If the tech guys said that is the maximum speed, then I don't think you can use anything faster unless you overclock it.

For what? Overclocking it?

You can do it (overclocking that is )but unless you cool it better it could get damaged.

Yeah overclocking or using a higher rated speed processor.

Re: Some questions on my motherboard and upgrading CPU processor speed
To overclock it you will need a better cooling/heatsink .

What kind of cooling do you recommend? What kind of heatsink do you recommend?

Wha?? I am so confused by your jumbled post... ok.... w/e....
I will do some research on the chipset design and pathways on that TYAN board for you and tell you what it can take and what it can't take. Give me a few mins to look at a tech schematic from the Purdue database on that model. BRB.

Re: Some questions on my motherboard and upgrading CPU processor speed
Ok, I pulled the info from that database. The I/O construction appears to be based on the early MP processors from AMD, mainly the dual string versions. Your motherboard has two 462pin ZIF sockets, meaning you can run two dual core AMD MP processors in it. What is odd is.. why do you have this strange motherboard? Was this a science station or server?
Also, do you the 4M version? Because according to this statistic, this was using AMDs NETBURST technology with silicon based FLASH ROM technology integrated onto the motherboard. Actually, its an interesting board... I would love to examine it.

Also, sorry for the quad posts, but I didnt want to make them too lengthy, but you might want to think about turning this into a home server for small personal webpages. Have your friends pay you about $5 a month and host it. Make sure your internet is fast enough.
