Default Some computer part is loose, don't know what it is and where it goes.

Okay, so I opened my old computer and cleaned it because it had dust and I found a part that was loose, pictures are included. Can anyone give me the name and where it goes? it has 2 hooks but only one place to put the hooks. Help! Thanks

PS: it also has some kind of thermal paste or something.

That is without the loose computer part.

A close up.

That is with the computer part.

And that is the computer part.

I am sort of a newb to computer hardware and stuff. :P I'm going to upgrade the video card and add more ram. Thanks again!

Sorry for the large images.

That is a heatsink, most likely off the northbridge.

Reapply some thermal paste (get it at radioshack) and clip it back on.

It only has one part to clip it back though.

Please explain what you mean. What 'part' are you referring to?

To connect a Z clip heat sink, there must be 2 anchors. I only see one.

If that is where the heatsink belongs, you would need to use either thermal adhesive or thermal tape to reattach it.

Arctic Silver Alumina AATA-5G Thermal Adhesive

Thermal Tape

Does a thermal adhesive or themal tape do the keep heat away from the processor?

You wont want to use it on the processor as it's a permanent solution. But for use in the northbridge chipset in your pic, it will work fine. It is intended to hold the heatsink on while helping to conduct heat away from the chip.

Okay, thanks! I was wondering what it was? How'd you know it was Northbridge? Also, I'm going to Fry's to get it. Is this Thermal Adhesive okay? http://www.frys.com/product/3089959?...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG

The northbridge chip gets quiet warm during normal use and is usually the only onboard chip that requires cooling.

Yup, the Arctic Silver adhesive is the stuff to get.
