Default Software problems

When I try to install a decent aged game which is not to old like Quake 3 and Battlezone it says "This program is not compatible for MS-DOS mode. Please click ok to terminate the program". What do I do to be able to have it let me install those games?

ok sorry umm... jeeze im not a computer whiz at all umm..

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition version 2002 service pack 2

Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.66Ghz 2.68Ghz, 512 MB of RAM

Graphics: Nvidia RIVA TNT2 Model 64
