Get the 4870 X2 it will wreck some shit.

Good Call on the Antec 1200 Worship, great case.

spending $2000 + you may as well get a Intel and a Mobo that supports DDR3...

I would wait a little bit as Intels new guy is just around the corner

They do help make a system more response overall though (windows/IE/navigating ect..)

Its not night and day but its a difference.
If he's going to be using resolutions of 1920 X 1200 and up he should go with the 4850 X2. The reason being is that starting at 1920 X 1200 the 4850 X2 actually outperforms the 4870 X2 (in most cases) for almost $200 less as seen here. The reason speculated for this phenomenon is that the 4870 X2's GDDR5 memory has higher latencies then the 4850 X2's GDDR3. If he's not, then I'd advise him to stick to the 4870 because the 4870 X2 is overkill imo.

Edit: Also, worshipme, I thought you disliked the antec 900 and 1200 with a passion?

Mostly the 900, the 1200 isn't too bad apart from the cable management.

+1. And you won't need an Nvidia motherboard.

RE: Getting Raptors as they load faster than a raid setup...

Is that absolutly true? Would a single raptor load a game faster than 2 normal drives in RAID 0??

if someone can explain I'd be grateful...

the raptors have an RPM of 10,000 - 15,000 RPM.

RAID 0 is still at 7,200 RPM with two normal drives.

you'll only see about a 15% increase with RAID 0 as compared to just one drive.

When does i7 come out? the 17th? what mobo's will support it? also I need help chosing the right RAM and everything.

how much improvement would I see from a core 2 quad 9550 to a core i7 920?

If you were referring to which X2 version I said you should use then I meant the 4850 X2 if you're going to be using resolutions of 1920 X 1200 or up. If you're using something smaller then the just plain 4870 or 4850 will do fine. And yes, from the i7 website it's coming out on the 17th. The new X58 mobo's will support it, none of their names are coming right off the top of my head so I can't tell you any specific ones. As for ram, it's going to be using tripple channel, yes, tripple channel of DDR3 from what I've heard. So expect to be seeing packs of three sticks of ram or whatnot soon after the i7 is released.

As for improvements, from what I've heard, the lowest costing i7 outperforms any of the previous Intel processors.

The seagate 1TB hard drive is getting cheap. I would also recommend it over 2 500GB Hard drives because there is always something that will need that extra SATA port. Trust me on this one. My mobo makes it so if you have a long video card you can't use 1 of your sata ports lol.
You shouldn't be relying on one large hard drive.

The higher you fly, the harder you fall.

The $114 WD has fantastic reviews. I'll probly be getting a 15,000 RPM raptor for Vista and select games.

just to clarify there is no 15,000 RPM raptor. There are 15,000 RPM SCSI drives though.

I like this setup if you have $350 to spend on hard drives.

1X 150 Gig Veloca raptor. Running Windows/Apps/Games
2 X 1TB Drives for storage in Raid 1

you dont necessarily need to get 1TB, it all depends how much data you have.

Or if your data is not important to you, this is way overkill. But for me my data is worth A LOT.

i have an internal and external HDD. They are both duplicated of one another.
Its for in case my computer crash, and the inter breaks, i would have a back up, or if the external breaks, then my internal will still work.
