Slow External HD 1TB Fantom transfers

Yah the plan was to backup anything I need on my external, then reformat. So I'm probably going to end up reformatting in the next hour, and hopefully after I install new drivers and such, and get everything fresh again, it'll work. If not then I'll smash my face into the wall and jack my dads copy of windows vista since it seemed to work fine on his laptop.

Man, I reformatted and my stuff was copying so fast 1gb/15 seconds...now out of no where it starts going slow again. No clue what I did, which was pretty much nothing but use ventrilo/xfire/wow....and its just balls slow, 1gb every 30 minutes this is awful...Uninstalling windows XP and buying vista.
