Nvidia has been doing HDMI with full Audio since the 8800GT (it needed a cable plugged into the motherboard though). Now it's just like any HDMI device and does full audio and video with just the card plugged in and a cable.

For me, I'd do SLI simply because I"m an Nvidia fanboy. In the end, how much you notice it will mostly depend on the cards you are using, and the application you are running. One setup will scream in one setup and run like crap in another.

^ This is absolutely correct. Some games (like Crysis and UT3) are specifically coded with SLI performance in mind. While others (I can't think of an example) are coded specifically with CrossFire in mind.

That itself is enough of a reason to go with SLI. Nvidia cards have built in Physx. I don't care what people say, but it really helps in games. I currently own AND use an ATI 4870, so don't call me a fanboy. I would definitely go with SLI. It usually does scale a tad bit better.
