hey guys, im a noob to sli, and am going to be adding another 8800 to my rig soon, i know they must be the same core and all that to run sli, but do they need to have the same memory? i.e. can i add a 640mb to my 320?

No you can't add 640MB to a 320MB card. It does not work like that. If you have a 320MB card and add a second card with 640MB Vram you will only have 320MB available. The cards will work fine but you'll waste the 640's Vram by SLIing it with a 320 card. Just get another 320 if thats what you already have.

Also if you do SLI 2 320MB cards your not going to have 640MB of Vram it will still only be 320MB total Vram.

No, what he is trying to say if you already have a 320, then you buy a 640 you wont ever be able to get that up to the 640. The highest you can get it is the lowest of the ones that you have. So pretty much the highest you would get out of your 640 is 320. Therefore your wasting the other 320 of the 640 that it is really capable of because the other one only goes up to 320.

I hope that kinda clears things up... Slightly confusing.
