Default SLI Graphics cards

just wondering if you can SLI two nvidia graphics cards that are NOT the same?

I read that you cant put them together, but you can put two cards from different manufacturers in the same system. in other words, they have to have the same gpu. is this true?

They have to have the same GPU. That means you can do an 8800 GT with another 8800GT or a 280 with another 280, but you cannot mix and match.
