Default Slave a Laptop SATA?

Hey everyone. First post here.

I've run into an issue with a crashed SATA drive (keeps BSOD-ing me) in the company-issued laptop. They've got another drive enroute, but I'll most likely never see this drive or the data on it ever again. Drive's got PointSec on it, so I can't try any Live CD (Knoppix) or repair installs. However, word is if I can slave this drive off another SATA drive with PointSec on it, that I can log into my drive and recover my data. I'd like to try that.

This leads me to my question: is it possible to slave my SATA drive if it's in an external enclosure (tethered to another PointSec-enabled laptop via USB)?

Welcome to The Computer Forums!

SATA doesn't use the Master/Slave feature. You just need to set which Drive is going to boot first. If you're using a HDD toaster, chances are it's connected by USB and most computers don't allow boot by USB. So you should just be able to plug it in and roll. Be sure to make sure it has USB 2.0 ports so that it can be powered.
