Default Simple Question Regarding PCI E 2.0

I did some browsing on the internet (and searched these forums), but I can't quite seem to find my answer, or am not understanding the answers I'm finding.

Quesiton is:

Will a PCI E x16 1.0 card work in a PCI E x16 2.0 slot?

Ex:

Will a 8600GT PCI E x16 work in a PCI E x16 2.0 slot?

Yeah, it will. The only thing that will happen is that it won't be running at 2.0 speed. It will still be running at x16 speed, though.
