Side panel: Want to add a fan

Hey,

I'm going to be modding my case hopefully today, to add a fan in the side window (Possibly to pull air out, though I'll test what gives the best results).

Its only thin plastic I believe, so might be able to do it with house hold tools (I have no specialist equipment).

This is what it looks like so far without any adjustment:

(I have updated the CPU heatsink/fan since the image to a Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 pro, pointing to drag air in from the back two fans now in place)

I'm also wondering where about to fit the hole for the new fan. Above the new heatsink? To the right of it? Or towards the bottom of the case where the video card, etc is?

Any help would be appreciated :)

The best place to fit it would be over the heatsink, or just to the left of it, as this would cool the VRMs as well as the CPU.

Ah, thats what I've been meaning to ask actually. I always thought the VRM (PWM in Uguru) was on the right...

So, right above :)

I'm going to have a go at cutting it now...somehow... Its only thin, so I may have some look with kitchn tools, haha.

Yep...

I found this improved cooling, having the 2 80mm pulling air in, and the front 120mm pulling air out. I don't know why, but it improved temps somewhat from having it the other way.

Its too late to change it now too since I've placed the new CPU heatsink on now, and turning it around would mean removing it all again...

If I can get this side fan to work, I can have the other two sets of fans pulling out, and maybe the side fan pulling air in. I don't know yet :p

Its about 1mm thick I presume too, and I thought it was less than that :( So I dont know how I'm going to do it now.

Ohh, hmm, I'm thinking it could work pretty good either way. Guess you'd just have to see which one works better. I think that it would work better as an intake. If it was an exhast, it would just be pulling out all of the air the back fans are pulling in. Who knows :p

Just a tip.

Don't.

And for the case airflow - it's probably cooler because the air being drawn in at the back is going straight to the CPU, rather than having to go over the Southbridge, some of it over the northbridge, and over the hard drive when it's drawn in through the front.

Yeah. I just tried to drill using an old drill my dad has, and even with celetape supporting it, skewed all over the place, not making a hole...

So that ideas out at the moment :p

Hey Kage, I think this would be an excellent upgrade fan: http://xoxide.com/sharkoon-rainbow-tc-80mm.html
[font=arial, helvetica]The Rainbow Fan TC from Sharkoon is one of the coolest and most innovative products on the fan market today. A built-in temperature sensor reads the current temp of the air in your case and then projects it directly on the fan blades with incredible accuracy!

Microchip technology monitors fan speed and synchronizes the projection in order to keep the text readable independent of the current rotation speed. The cool effect of the Sharkoon Rainbow Fan TC is the perfect next mod for your case.

Features:
