Wow, not SATA. I haven't used IDE in a long time. WIth IDE drives, make sure that you have the hard drive set to Cable Select or Master.
Then go into BIOS and make sure that this new IDE hard drive is the primary boot device and should be the second one in the boot order. I always have my DVD set to my first boot device.
