Default Setting Up Proxies

I've been wondering for a while how to set up a proxy server
Its just that a few of my friends are quite good and easily able to obtain my ip address (haha, i am sad, they just need to enable their email headers and do a netstat command
Are there any websites where they actually teach you how to set up one ? I've googled it but most of the stuff that i found has either been outdated or either just too confusing, i can't even follow the instuctions ...
Also, i forgot about this, but i once went on a online proxy server where it is just a normal website but just that they automatically apply the proxy settings ...
Any suggestions of ideas ? All help would be really appreciated and thank you in advance
