Setting up 2 hard drives

I have a hard drive with Windows XP on it, and I would like install another damaged hard drive with Windows 2000 on it so I can at least salvage some files from it. Could anyone help me with how to do this? Thanks in advance.

take your primary hdd out (the one running xp) and see if you have to move the jumper to accommodate a slave drive, if you don't have to remove it to do this, then don't...

then put the jumper on the slave setting for the other hdd (sometimes you don't need a jumper for it to be a slave and you can leave it jumperless)...

you should then be good to go...
