There were a few infected files but those got fixed/deleted. The following problem remained there though.

It looks like a bunch of Microsoft files are infected, however, when i tried downloading the security updates it would either say that my version of Windows already has the updates or that update.exe is not a velid win32 application. Would u know how to fix this? Thanks a lot
 
You could try running the system file checker if you have an xp cd. Goto the run prompt and type sfc /scannow that will check all the system files on your computer against ones on your CD.
