I am not really sure. Are you talking about serial ATA (SATA)?

I can't remmember how a Serial Connects to the Computer? I know its different to a SCSI; but I can't remmember the difference to a IDE?

I think you would need an IDE controller to take a Serial. So if you have one, you would be better off with a serial. If not, a standard IDE would do fine.
I think your friend is looking to take the faster drive!

SATA drives are easier to install, take up less room (small cable compared to the fat thick in the way cable of the ide drives) and they run faster. Definitely keep the SATA drive. I bleive you can buy a pci controller card to install it in ur current system, instead of witing until u buy a new system. I have both 1SATA drive and i just installed my old IDE drive, man was that a bit of work gettung that thing in there. I'd much rather have another SATA drive.

Don't consider him as your friend!, most of us know that SATA have a faster transfer rate than IDE.

Default re thread: why I use windows

I use Windows (98SE, 2000) because most people who use my software do. I try to write code that will work in both Windows and Linux, and am insane about portability. At least there is now MinGW/MSYS with gcc/g++ and g77/g95 (not to mention Octave and R) that provide some portability between the platforms.
