Default Screen hang ups

Hi, just joined so not sure if this is the right place to post this...

Basically I just built a new computer and everything runs fine. I can stream shows and all the rest but when I come to gaming theres issues...

The game will run for about 5 seconds then the screen freezes. Sometimes the screen goes black and occasionally I can still move the mouse. I can watch the cut scenes but when it comes to game play it just cuts out.

Im not completely sure I wired the power correctly. My PSU came with a PCI cable. Both ends have a six pin connection but one end also has a 2 pin connector. I couldnt see any place for this end to plug into so not sure if its needed.

Ive tried installing the drivers 3 times, once from the disk and twice from the internet. Do I need to delete the drivers every time I install them? If so how do I find them?

I have a GeForce 8800GT GPU. Someone please help me out, its driving me crazy!!

Hi, thanks for the response. Where are the drivers located? I looked in system32 and all the files have weird names so I didnt want to delete the wrong driver.

Thanks again

It turns out it was a faulty power cable. Thank you both for your time and advice
