Default SBC DSL & 2Wire router disconnects

I have an HP a1410 with XP SP2, all updates, and SBC Yahoo DSL, which has worked flawlessly for a year.

Yesterday, my router ( 2Wire 2700 connected via cable to 2 PC's ) began disconnecting on its own .... lights go out, then it reboots, every few minutes, almost like clockwork. SBC tech said line tests show no problems, but did notice that I had better performance with the line filter removed.

This morning it is running better, i.e. fewer disconnects, but still doing it. Ran AVG pro anti virus and spyware, nothing showing up. No hardware changes to either computer recently. We did have heavy rains yesterday, but nothing to make me think its weather related.

Any suggestions to avoid a service call for wiring checks?
