Default Saving Files in Photoshop

Everytime I try to save a photoshop picture or file, it messes up.

I will save a PSD, and then try to open it, and an error occurs.

I will try to save it as a JPEG, GIF, BMP, etc. and it saves. But when it saves the file type is File.

This happenned with my old computer, before I built this one when I was using PhotoShop CS2, then I built the new computer and it still did it. I got CS3, and it still does it.

Help would be greatly appreciated. This is affecting my finances :[[[

Also, to save as .JPG, .BMP, .GIF you have to turn down the colors to 16 bit or 8 bit I don't remember which one, try both.

Wow, I changed nothing and it magicaly worked this time. Then I tried it again and it fudged it up. I am managing to save and re open PSD files now, so this is a nice improvement. Haha.

Ill just bump if any problems come up, thanks.
