Default SATA drive not working

I've been lent a 160gb Sata Hard drive by someone to test out. He hasn't had chance to test it since it was given to him and doesn't know if it works.

I've connected it up to the primary channel and turned on the SATA option on my mobo. When it goes to scan the channels it displays Primary Channel.....

And then does nothing, does this mean the HD is screwed?

The Hard drive is a Hitachi deskstar and the mobo is a Gigabyte SINXP 1394.
