The other day i was installing Win 7 on a desktop pc and before i noticed that SATA 1 was broken so i decided to do the intallation connecting the HDD on SATA 2 but during the installation Win did not find any physical drive installed. Does that mean that you only on the primary SATA you perform an installtion? I had to use an IDE connection with an old hard drive to be able to fix the system. SATA 2 is not detected still.

SATA is nice as it doesn't really matter. Usually it's not detected because the port is disabled in BIOS (common on a lot of dell desktops) or you need a RAID/AHCI driver fro windows to recognize the drive.
