Default Query message on screen

My CPU is AMD.
When I boot-up, on the first, [black] screen, one line reads; "Ultra DMA S.M.A.R.T. not detected" is the way it was set up by my builder, if so, what is Ultra DMA, & would it be an advantatage to have it active?

No, you do probably have that. What you don't have is S.M.A.R.T.

Basically it recognises if theres a problem with yuor hard drive and warns you with beeps or messages that something is up, so that you have time to back up.

I don't know how great it is in doing so, but I don't think I have it on. It always has to be scanning which could slow the hard drive down.
