Default Resolutions and refresh rates

Hi

I am just wondering what refresh rates are best for what reslolutions

I have my pc set at 1024x768 at 85Hz

Is this alright

actually i've been wondering....what exactly does the refresh rate do? can't you just jack it up to the highest it will go?what is the point in setting it any lower? i don't understand lol

Its how many times the picture is reprinted across the screen. It will resend the information for each pixel to the top left to the bottom right 60 times a second at 60Hz.

Wow... You guys have your resolutions set low!

Mine's at 1280x1024 at 60Hz... 'Tis the factory recommended setting.

I wanted 1600 by whatever but I ended up getting a TFT instead of a CRT, and it only does 1280 by 1024

You go past what the maker sets as the top speed and I'll be happy to sell you a new monitor. It will smoke the monitor...
