Default Renewing IP Address

I took a look at my friends computer cuz she could not connect to the internet. I tried connecting my laptop to her hard line and i can connect fine. I can also connect wireless. When i tried to setup the connection it fails to Renew IP Address and gives the error cannot complete repair. What are my options?

She has a HP L2000.

I would look at the settings of the network connectors. I've seen a few viruses/malware go in and manually set IP addresses so they do not work with a normal home network. If it's set to look for a different router that could be the root of your problem.

Try this: Go to DOS, type in: ipconfig /all
and press enter
paste the results here. That should help us understand what is going on a little better.
To get to DOS(AKA Command Prompt), click Start->Run.
Type in the word cmd
Then press enter.

You need to go to Start > Run > type in CMD > then type IPconfig. Using the IPconfig command in "run" will make it pop up only momentarily.

Go here and take a look: http://www.hotcomm.com/FAQ/FAQ_staticIPXP.asp

What I want you do make sure is different, is instead of entering in all the values, it's set to obtain all the info automatically.

Also, have you scanned the computer for viruses, spyware and malware?
