Removing Crap

So a friend has a bunch of crap on his computer. Trojans, spyware and the like. What else should he be doing besides using a virus scanner and spybot s&d.

What is a good free virus scanner?

That was fairly broad, but I appreciate the help.

Honestly....Save all the important files to an external (or a second hard drive) and reformat the computer. Its really the only way to get everything off.

You could use extra scanners and such but none are 100% chance of getting everything off.

CCleaner is your best bet if he doesn't want to reformat.

Avast! or AVG free edition. Remove the trojans in safe mode.

Doesn't matter, they are both very good free programs that do the job flawlessly.

Depends on who you ask. I would say AVG, others would say Avast!. In the end it's all personal preference.
