Default Reformating and space

If you reformat your harddrive, will you loose some space? I read in a thread some time ago that you would loose some gb's if you reformat.

You format the whole drive or partition without loss of anything.

Format = deleting everything in drive, including your operating systems and system files

You won't lose anything unless your drive head is off-track, then the arm will write over and "forget" about certain parts of the drive.
