OK so i was looking to put some more space on my computer so i bought a 100gb SATA hard drive. (i have used a SATA drive before when i first built my computer but i got a terrible virus and the hard drive crashed so i bought a cheap 40gb ATA drive off my friend and is worked fine) now i want to keep my ATA drive as my boot drive and use my SATA drive for extra space.

can this be done? how can i get my computer to recognize it?

Turn on SATA in the bios.
Load the right motherboard drivers for the SATA.
Shut down and install the drive.
On bootup the bios should show if it sees it or not.
If yes then using the makers formatting software, partition and format the drive.
If no then check to see if it has any programming jumpers on the drive. (after you shut the rig down) Set as needed.
Reboot
Go back to> if yes.
edit> XP will assign the next availble drive letter.
I was given a 160 WD sata II drive for my bday and the only thing I had to do was let xp search for the right drive and put the jumper in to limit the drive to 150Mbps transfer rate. My board doesn't support sata II 300Mbps.
