Okay, remember that "small-scale" rig I had all the parts for? I'm not so sure of myself anymore.

I forgot what the computer was going to be used for: word processing, web browsing, and once-a-month Halo.

So I decided to ditch the X2 processors, ditch an optical drive, and ditch the extra cooler.

So I've gotten all the parts set. I just need someone to go over and see if everything's compatible.

CASE (x1 for $45): COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Computer Case

OPTICAL DRIVES (X1 for $38.99): NEC Black IDE DVD Burner Model PX-740A/SW-BL

MOTHERBOARD (X1 FOR $95.99): ASUS A8R-MVP Socket 939 ATI Radeon XPRESS 200 CrossFire ATX AMD CrossFire Motherboard - Retail

HARDDRIVE (X1 $85): Western Digital Caviar RE 160GB 3.5" Serial ATA150

POWER SUPPLY (X1 FOR $68.99): Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-500 500W Power Supply - Retail

PROCESSOR (X1 FOR $159): AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 1GHz HT Socket 939 Processor - Retail

SOUND CARD (X1 FOR $49.99): Turtle Beach CATALINA 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card - Retail

MEMORY (X1 FOR $84.99): OCZ Premier Dual Channel 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM System Memory - Retail

VIDEO CARD (X1 FOR $99.990: MSI RX1600PRO-TD256E Radeon X1600PRO 256MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card - OEM

OPERATING SYSTEM (X1 FOR $88.95): Windows XP Home with SP2

MONITOR W/ BUILT-INSPEAKER (X1 FOR $199.99): Acer AL1732d Black 17" 12ms LCD Monitor Built in Speakers - Retail

GRAND TOTAL: $1,091.82

An extra defrag program I decided to accompany the rig.

the 6600GT will run halo decently. probably 800x600 high settings with 60+ fps... but don't expect anything better than that out of it.

Looks nice. Once again, I must say, needless money is going to be spent, because you are getting a sound card, for speakers that are on a moniter. You just dont need the card. And even if there is no intigreated sound.. Get a cheaper sound card.

You would be alot better with intel if its not all for gaming, intel is better for everything else

I'm sticking with the AMD. As long as the total doesn't exceed $1100, it's all good.
