The mobo has a built in Sound Blaster audio chip. And I wear headphones any way.

I am using either XP Pro or the 64-bit. I already have XP Pro.

The 6800's are like $300.

I was thinking about the x800 but it doesn't have SLI capabilities.

As for the hard drive, 20 dollars sounds great if its reliable but what type of hard drive is it and what RPM does it have?

Lets make sure its stable..

Here's a thought. Build me a gaming PC. $1,000 budget. No monitor, keyboard, mouse or OS.

Have fun!!!

(This is just to get some more input. I don't want to screw this up.)

Get what bajawolf's getting, but with a 6600GT. The 6800 will probably put you over the budget.

Lets round up these prices so far..
Motherboard: $142.00
Processor: $197.00

URL: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145576

Video Card: MSI NX6600GT-TD128E Geforce 6600GT 128MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI-Express x16 Video Card
URL: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127147

Lets round up these prices..

Hard Drive: Western Digital Raptor WD740GD 73GB 10,000 RPM 8MB Cache Serial ATA150 Hard Drive (OEM)
URL: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144160

The above hard drive is a faster and better performing hard drive, but if you don't want, heres a standard hard drive:

Hard Drive (Standard): Western Digital Caviar SE WD800JBRTL 80GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive
URL: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144164

If you want good sound, this is a good card:

Hard Drive (Standard): $92.00

A standard case could cost you as much as $144, if you want to go out and get the Aspire-XNavigator like I did..

If your interested in that, it has the following:
5 80MM Fans
500W PSU w/ 2 Fans
ATX Compatibility

Its a good case.. good luck on your system. - I reccomend the Raptor hard drive due to stabability and performance.

Hope this helps!

The problem I am having is that AMD's processors seem to be very confusing. They have a million different cores. Then when you look at the differences between them specs. they are the same. I look at the specs. on these and they almost look identical. This is my first AMD PC and I just want to find a processor that will run the latest games. I don't think it requires a lot of processor power if you program.I need HELP!!!!! I just don't know what to really look for in AMD's. Intel is easy.

The processor I gave you will run all of the latest games, no problem.
Venice is the newest and best performing core in AMD processors.
