Default RAM for turning a workstation into a server

I have a Compaq EVO D500 desktop/workstation, that i need to upgrade to a server, and run NetWare 6.5. Currently it has 256 MB of RAM, but NetWare 6.5 requires a minimum of 512 MB. I don't know a lot about this workstation. I tried to look up the computer, but there are so many variants of the computer, it was hard to tell. My understanding is that all of them can hold up to 3 GB. What is the best type (and compatible) RAM to use for this task? Is it best to get 1 stick of 512, or 2 sticks of 256? I want to spend as little money as possible on this.

run cpu-z and tell us the speed, the number of slots, and the currently installed ram, and I'll tell you what to buy.
