Default RAM timing

Im building a new comp (hopefully) and am looking at the ram. Im planning on getting something around a amd athlon 64 x2 4200. I had it mostly planned out but then a friend of mine commented how important the ram timing is to the dual-core cpu's. Being the jerk he is he refused to comment further so i want to know... what is the best timing for this? feel free to ask for more info on the comp if needed. I am also on a bit of a budget so if some timing is expensive id like to know a reasonably priced one too.

thanks in advanced

well the smaller the timings are the better it is. And the timings don't make a huge difference but of course the faster the better.
