Default ram sticks

are all ram sticks the same? can i take a ram stick from my old computer and put it in my new one? my new computer only has 256 mb of ram and i want 500 so i really need help. i know there are four types of ram sticks with different memory but will i be able to take a ram stick from one computer and make it work in my new one or will it ruin my new computer?

Default Ddr Sdram

i just bought a new smachines computer. i dont know exactly what you need to know to help me so can you tell me? i have 256 MB of DDR SDRAM if that helps any.

E-machines are fussy about memory, you'll have to goto the web site and check the specifications (or user manual). Then you need to match the already installed ram. They also have limits to the size of the ram modules, so check first.

It's memory type AND speed.

okay guys if u wanna know wat your computer will take in memory go to http://www.crucial.com/ and they can tell you how much your comp will take dont buy from them though

hey thanks, it worked. but i still need help on the information i got. it said i have 256 installed module size, and the form factor is DIMM. do you know where i can get more memory like that?
