RAM affecting NIC?

A customer's computer that I'm working on has 128mb RAM. When I upgraded her system to 1Gb RAM the NIC was not recognized by Device Manager. When I put the 128 stick back in the NIC was recognized. The amount of RAM shouldn't affect the functionality of a NIC and I never had this problem before.

Any thoughts?

XP Home Edition.

I did some troubleshooting and talked to a Dell rep about it. Though no exact caused was found the NIC all of a sudden worked with the RAM.....Very strange.
