Its not just you. I have 4 gigs as well and when I boot into XP I show 2.85gigs available. It depends on the motheboard and the bios to what you show available.

If you have a problem with not seeing or having all your ram available I suggest you switch to 64bit cause your never going to see it all on a 32 bit OS.

Check out the 64bit Vista man. Just pick up the OEM home Premium and check your PM's.
