You can mismatch the actual size of RAM, but not speed. It will run slower that way or not even work at all depend on the motherboard.
DDR and DDR2 are two different technology. If your motherboard supports DDR, then it will not want DDR2 RAMs. When you go online to look for RAM, they will usually tell you in the specifications area what type it is. It will tell you if it's DDR or DDR2. Get the DDR one.
