Setting up a RAID array is simple.

You need to figure out if you want read/write access speed(RAID 0), or data protection(RAID1 and above).

Look on like the fourth or fifth page under "General Computer Hardware and Software" .. I have a post started "Running a Raid"

Ohhh i see...Very informative thread. I had a question seeing as im paranoid about raid 0 that one drive will fail. Could i run Raid 0 and have an external HD as a back up. I want the speed of RAID 0 but also the security of RAID 1 and i dont think my board supports RAID 0+1. What would you guys reccommend?

Your board doesn't support RAID 0+1. But it goes even better than that.

It supports RAID 10.

RAID 10 has a better fault tolerance than RAID 0+1 and you get good access speed too.

As long as you can afford the drives and really need this kind of set-up i'd go for it.

wow i dont think im going to need that.. You would need a minimun of 4 drives right?...So if i would add another Western Digital Raptor 160gb would that complete RAID10.

What other alternative is out there?
