I am trying to get a LAN running but both computers constantly say "A network cable is unplugged".

I am suspicious the cable is not the correct one despite fitting in the LAN ports ok.

How can I tell I have the correct cable? It has 8 tiny copper pins on the flat head.

Thankyou kindly

How are you trying to do it? Is it through a router? Because if you are trying to set up a lan by connecting both computers right to each other, you can't just use regular cat5 cable, you need a crossover cable.

hi welcome to CF's

yeah as said above you cant just simpy plug 1 conputers into each other with a standard network cable.

you either need a cross over cable.

or if u plan to add more computers at a later dat a switch and 2 network cables is good
