Default Questions, and Help..New computer

I was wondering if i could get some help or something to put want i want to get in the right direction as far as computer parts parts go and the round about price, like what to get and if it will all go together(compatible).

I want to go with AMD and maybe i was thinking AMD Athlon XP, maybe, i dunno, if someone can suggest something diffrent, then please do so.

So far, all I have for the new build is:
Pioneer dvd burner
http://www.pioneeraus.com.au/compute...riters/dvr109/
Which I later forgot to check if I got any software for, and did not get any software for, so I was of a let down, but hey as my bro said you can easy later download Nero 6.6 or whatever.

and a monitor, thats all.
So what im looking for in a computer or what to do on it:
I want to do what i cant do now with the current computer i have, is:
Moregaming,And im one to admit I don’t know much about graphics card/video cards (as you can tell).
Also ive heard someone metion TS2, whats that?

Want to get more and learn: Programming, Website building stuff like that,Multitasking, and that would be like photoshop and graphic making, movie making, creating type thing while doing other things.
Possibly
http://www.computerforums.org/showthread.php?t=11108

Of course burning and other thing that i cant think of now, so i want to do a far bit more(well heaps more) that i cant do now.

I did have in mind of getting a lap, a HP ze4220 but i changed my mind.

Thanks in advance for any help!

for what you want to do, probably an AMD Athlon 64 3200 (maybe upgrade to a 3500 if you have the money) with a gig of ram would suffice. if you are wanting to do gaming, probably a 6600GT or a 6800GT would be great. What is your budget?
I have the pioneer dvr-108 dvd-rw drive and it is a great drive, I like it.

hmmm, funny you should say that, my bro currently got AMD Athlon 3500+ from the comp market, with a gigabyte mobo and graphics card and all(which hes thinking of oc'n)

I told him that i was thinking of(since you metioned it here)

AMD Athlon 64 3200 or AMD Athlon 64 3500+ or AMD Athlon XP and he said that if i ended up getting the same as him ~
AMD Athlon 64 3500
That i would be wasting my money, and trying to talk me outta it but im thinking hes being greedy and trying to 'bet' me so to say(like he always does).Coz i dont really have a budget. So i dunno.

And as for the Pioneer DVD burner, its really nioce, black and slick its really nioce and i was hoping that its as nice in looks as it is in burning and performance.

And thanks for your help! Greatly appreciated

yeah, don't listen to him, the 3500 is a great choice and can overclock really well. definitly not a waste of money. if you really want to make him jealous, you could go for an AMD Athlon X2 processor, dual core.

Hey G.G.

PROCESSOR:

The processor is the most important part of course (except for power and motherboard...).

I have the Athlon 64 3500+ and like it, yeah, but I could have spent less and got the 3000+ or the 3200+ and then got a better motherboard and a better video card.

With the extra money, I would have bought a PCI-E motherboard for graphics to allow for newer and better video cards.

I probably then would have got the 6600GT since this was and still is a great card for gaming in good resolutions/settings.

So, if I were you, I'd save that bit extra money and get better hardware along side it.

I mean, I know that if I got the 3000, or 3200+ I wouldn't notice that much speed difference, and do remember G.G that if you learn about overclocking, the 3000+ can go as fast or faster than the 3500+ running speed anyway if done well. The 3500+ if you tried to overclock wouldn't go that far at all, and would need super cooling to do so. So you could probably overclock the 3000+ with stock cooling to a rather high clock

Remembering that, you have a great 64bit PC ready for 64 bit programs, and games (Like the Viesta Windows to unlock potential) and you have the capability to overclock later on if you need extra power

MOTHERBOARD & GRAPHICS:

If you really want to game though, get a PCI-E motherboard along side and a 6600GT or if you want to play at really high settings, without having to worry what your system can and cannot do (annoys me so much), then go for the 6800GT

RAM:

For the RAM, I'd say 1GB, and that should do you fine, and release any bottle necks getting only 512mb would give.

SOUND CARD:

I also advise you buy a sound card and not use one using system resources, as this slows the computer down and makes sound sound horrible, trust me. People with a proper Creative sound card won't go back to using in-built sound, and thats a fact.

Plus, Evanesence will sound so much better, dont you think?

POWER SUPPLY:

For the power supply, I'd suggest at least 400 watt's so to be safe, I'd get a 450watt power supply. That should then last you.

I hope this helps.

Kage, I've heard that the 3500 can overclock like a mofo with the venice core. she said she really has no budget so she could probably get everything that is good.
to elaborate on your motherboard suggestion, I would suggest Asus motherboards, I use one right now and it's great.

Edit: Kage, I see now why you don't think much of the 3500, I was looking at your setup in your sig. first of all, you are running the older Winchester core, the venice core is much better at overclocking. Second, you are running value ram, which doesn't allow you to overclock well with any processor, you need overclocking ram if you're going to overclock.

Yeah, I have the 3500+ but its a Winchester core (The Venice wasn't out when I got it, and it wasn't even talked about) and I'm running on stock cooling.

I've tried overclocking it on stock, and the temps go to 60 degrees even on a small overclock, and it runs idle at about 45 degrees, so you can see what a big jump that is.

I guess the Vence could do better though and might be worth looking into, but to be honest, even if she hasn't got a budget, its never good to push the boat out too much, as you can spend some of that money on better components elsewhere on the system. I mean, no one ever has a unlimited amount of money.

I'd rather see money being placed into a great motherboard and graphics card, and then a processor which would also do well.
I mean, yeah, the 3500+ is fast, but the 3000+ or 3200+ wouldn't be any slower really in the real world, and there only a few 100mhz slower anyway, and if the 3000+ and 3200+ can be overclocked just as much or more, whats the point?

I just don't see the point spending that much. I wish I didnt...

EDIT:

Yes, i see that, though I did have a budget, and don't think my system is that bad.
I haven't tried to overclock much anyway, and shouldn't really want to either.
I mean even though the RAM is Value, it doesn't mean it can't overclock, it just means it won't go as high as Premium RAM, which cost about 3 times more.

When I tried to overclock, you have to remember it was the stock cooling which was doing the damage, not the motherboard or RAM, as even Value RAM should be able to overclock a certain amount.

So if I got the 3500 and I can over clock that to make it go even faster? Hell yeah!
And of course I want to make him jealous, have a faster comp and trying and beat him at hes own game..and im a girl…YEP
AMD Athlon X2 processor, dual core..Whats that at? 3800+? and how much around abouts?

Thats what my bro said "Why go for the 3500 when you can get the 3200 and not that you'd notice that much diffrence anyway". So i dont know, im getting told one thing then getting told another but as Tommy Boy said i could go even higher to AMD Athlon X2 processor dual core, so ill have to see, not too sure.

So the 6800GT, so i think ill get that, while im here, what price are they ‘round about if you or anyone knows?

What do you mean?

Eeek, Also i nearly forgot about the sound card, that’s another question, i what to get new speakers(remember we were talking about them once) and im thinking about getting what you had if I remember right the 5.1 surround(sp) sound? Not sure about that. What was it again?

Of course, but I don’t need a sound card to make Evanescence sound better :P lol na but yeah that’s true, I might do that, you know me to well , thanks again !

Hehe, was the speaker system by any chance the Logitech Z 5.1 channel set?

"and release any bottle necks getting only 512mb would give."

Well the system would reach bottle necks (not being able to go any faster) because of something as stupid as not fitting enough RAM in... *rolls eyes*. I advise everyone to get 1GB now!

The 6800GT...hmm... well if you have no price range, you could go for the Ultra version, or hehe, if you don't care about money at all, why not the new 7800 hehe.

Anyhow, the 6800GT would probably set you back about $280 i'd imagine in your money.

PROCESSOR:

As for the processor, with your brother saying you wouldn't notice a difference, you honestly wouldn't.

I'd first pick a motherboard. A PCI-E one of course
With as much accessories, extras as you like.

I'd then pick the graphics card, sound card, RAM (fastest the motherboard will support for best speed...naturally, hehe) and power supply.

I'd then check how much money you have (hopefully a couple of hundred left over) and tease your brain until you come to a decision on the processor.

If you want the X2's (think it is 3800-4000+ in speed...one of those) though
(should be really fast, and if your computer at the moment can't multitask, this will shock you so much, and so might not be a bad buy) you'll have to get a specialist motherboard.

It's up to you. If you can afford it though, of course the X2 would be great! If you can't, then any one of the new Vence 64bit Athlon 64's will suffice.

Any of the processors will last you a long time, and you can finally put your prehistoric beast to rest

So what i got it down to so far i could change my mind lol)

AMD Athlon X2 processor, dual core at about 3800-4000+ or AMD Athlon 3500 or AMD Athlon 3200(still cant decide yet, too hard of a choice lol)
Vence 64bit Athlon 64's whats the diffrence?
Asus mobo or anything faster?
6800GT for about $280,
What about the Radeon or just go with the 6800GT?
Speakers/ Sound card
You said you have the Logitech ones how are they? Or whats another good buy that you or anyone knows of? and what sounds card would be best?
RAM 1GB, Not 512 because of bottle necks, But why does that happen?
Power supply, 450watt

I think thats everything so far.
