Default question about restoring a hardrive, pros please

ok so my hardrive craped out, i have another hardrive that i keep a backup of myn and my sisters computers on, would it be posible to restore my backup onto the harddrive that its on? how can i get my backup file and restore it to the hardrive that its on? if i need another hard drive to do it my brother has his computer that i can use.

I don't think you can restore images to the same drive they were backed up too. I would buy a new drive and then restore to it so you don't have to hijack your sibling's parts to make your computer work.

i would buy a new one but right now i dont have the money, i have wires to hook a harddrive up to a usb port. couldnt i transfer the image file onto my brothers computer then restore it onto the other drive?
