Hi guys, first post here.

This is a very noobish question.
If i were to buy this hdd and connect it to my desktop that already has an internal HDD with win7 on it with this cable, could i install linux on the new HDD via a LiveCD/burn it do the drive and choose between which HDD to boot from on boot? And if it's any more difficult than that what else needs to be done? Thanks!

Gday, yes you can do that!

Process:

Make sure that your bios is booting off your windows drive before continuing.

Install the HDD, boot of CD, then install the Linux image on the new drive.

Then you should have a option at the POST screen (might be F12) to change your boot device, select your new Linux drive, and assuming that you have installed the GRUB boot loader or other boot loader, the Linux OS WILL boot and start the system.

Hope this helps.

Let me know how it goes.
