I got a friend who has Windows XP SP2 I believe ( IDK if it matters ). She has some files saved in "My Documents" and sometimes when she starts or re-starts her computer the files will be missing. I havent came across this type of problem so IDK how to go about trying to figure the problem out. She is in college so she kinda needs to be able to get to the files without having to randomly restart the computer 6-7 times before the files RE-appear! The only thing I know to do is try the "Trend Micro" online scanner. Get all the files I can off of it and reformat it?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Reformatting seems a bit extreme.

The virus scan sounds like a good idea along with a spyware scan from Ad-Aware Free. A general cleanup and de-frag of her system would be a good idea also. If she has a CD burner or a floppy in that thing, it would be a good idea to make some backups of the files.
