Is there a certain feature on Windows XP or any program I can download that will shut down the computer if the CPU temperature goes beyond a certain degree?

That just crossed my mind.
 
There's a setting in the BIOS that does just that. Have a look through the motherboard for it's location and settings in the BIOS.

yep, i have mine set, only had to use it once, when i was messin around in the case and accidently unplugged the fan cable or loosened it without knowing, it can be a life saver
