Default Q9550

I just seen it at the computer store today. Did it just arrive? Has anyone tested it yet?

It's a bit pricey,it would be interesting to see it's performance, and wether or not the $530 is worth it.

Yeah I looked it up and price should drop by Q3. It also supposedly has a 8.5x multi and some little OC's in the 3.6Ghz range so far. I did see one that said 4.2Ghz though, but not too sure on the credibility.

Q6600 is still a much better deal, and will actually overclock further. With any of these chips, your motherboard is going to limit the FSB before the CPU does.

The Q6600 has an FSB of 1066 quad pumped, so 266. Multiplier of 9
The Q9450 has an FSB of 1333 quad pumped, so 333. Multiplier of 8

To take the Q6600 to 3.6 GHz, you need an FSB of 400. That's high, but definitely possible.
To take the Q9450 to 3.6 GHz, you need an FSB of 450. Very few motherboards could do that.

It's like the E6600 vs the E6750. The E6600 was much better for overclockers.

450FSB isn't usually a problem for a decent Intel chipset, the Nvidia boards might not handle a quad at that FSB, but I do agree, the Q9450 needs to come down in price for people to start buying it over the Q6600 or Q6700 (x10).

I can hit 475 FSB with my P5K and the Q6600. 500 comes easy with the E8400

Well this one was said to be at 8.5x Multi and so far 3.6Ghz came pretty easy. You get 3.8Ghz at 450FSB, I donno how someone said they got to 4.2Ghz but it would require 494 FSB so it may be possible.

Q6700 has a x10 multi? Wow, I didn't know that. I'll definitely consider that next time I'm upgrading...

It does, yes. But don't that influence your decision unless you've got the cooling to take advantage of that extra notch.
