Put DVD Drive in sun?

i ordered install media from sun, it came on dvd... and my ultra 10 only has a cd rom drive.... if i put my pc dvd drive in there will it work to boot off of and install?

I have a feeling that it may not work, SUN sparc based systems are quite picky hardware wise.

You can however, also download a 5CD version of Solaris 10 for older systems.

Edit: my bad sorry looks like he is putting a pc DVD drive in there to install it, sorry im not looking properly again !

You guys do know what an Ultra 10 is? It's not an X86 based system, completely proprietary sun hardware.

I've had no luck replacing IDE drives in completely proprietary hardware devices before.
