My PSU makes a high pitched weeeeeee sound and is noticable while the computer is off. Now, I only started noticing this sound after the power in the house went out the other day during a thunderstorm. The PSU is a brand new RMA unit that I got from OCZ a couple of months ago. Should I replace it or is there a way to find out what is causing this noise?

If the sound is definitely coming from the PSU, have it replaced. There are no user serviceable parts inside and opening it up will void the warranty.

Sounds like a squealing cap. I have one on my mobo, it not really a sign that the PSU is close to failure but if you can get it replaced, do it.

PC power and cooling. I've been using them for years with excellent results. Also, I've seen Antec power supplys hold up well.

Antec, Corsair, Silverstone, Coolermaster, and FSP group are some of the best

along with OCZ if you want to go that path again
