do i need a new psu for a new gfx card?
i have a hp pavillion a706n

depends on how good of a graphics card you are getting, you will probably want to get a new one though because I think most HP's either come with a 250w or a 300w which willn't be enough to power a decent card

EDIT: Yeah you would want to get a new one then

and a 6800gt evga

I think 580w is a little overkill but it should be fine

how about getting a OCZ Powerstream 520? or, if you are on a a budget, get a fortron AX-500.
