Default PS2 Hard Drive

I posted a question about installing my PS2 hard drive into my PC a while back and I am just now getting around to doing it. I tried installing the drive this past weekend and when I would boot my PC it would come up saying Please insert boot media or boot drive. Is there something I need to do before I try and install this drive? Thanks for the help.

yeah, you need to put an operating system on it and that means reformatting the whole thing and losing your games....try putting it in as a slave drive (2nd hard drive in addition to your main drive) and make sure you change the jumper on it to the "slave" setting.

If I set it as slave will I still have to install a OS on it?
