Windows Defender

Windows Live OneCare registry cleaner

Windows has a built in firewall that's not available as a separate download.

Vista's Outlook has a built in spam filter. Outlook 2003 SP2 supplies a spam filter for XP.

Couldn't tell ya.

It's not from Microsoft, but I would recommend using CCleaner.

CCleaner is a freeware system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. Additionally it contains a fully featured registry cleaner. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware!

Good question man. I actually was looking into that myself. I was looking into the AVG Internet Security suite, looks pretty awesome. But I am still researching to see what the best option is. Maybe someone here will have some better recommendations.

I hear Avast and Comodo make some nice products along with AVG.

I've only used AVG Free. Combined with using Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, and CCleaner, my machine is running good and virus free.

My vote goes for Avast! Professional edition. download it from their website and somehow obtain a key for the pro full version...

I used to be a hardcore AVG fan, but tried Avast! and loved it. I use it on all my PCs now.

I recommend Avast! and Ad-Aware for free options.

No it doesnt. Ive used it for almost 2 years. Been virus free ever since. It doesnt like any other programs such, as Adawre, CCleaner.

One thing that pissed me off was that, when i bought it, I bought it for $20, Then when It came time renew (it was for sale at best buy for $9.99 at the tim) they wanted me to pay $50.
