I have a Dell Dimension 9200 with a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 ghz and a Dell E350 with a Intel Pentium 4 3.0 ghz w/ HT and a 775 socket. I want to put the Core 2 Duo in the E350 and get a more powerful processor for the 9200. I was wondering what would be better, a Core 2 Quad with a 2.66 ghz processor or a Core 2 Duo with 3.0 ghz and why?
Also, with the exception of hyperthreading, what's the advantage of the Bloomfield i7 processors to the Core 2 Quad processors.

To be honest there would be no point to upgrade really from a core 2 duo to a more powerful core 2 duo. If you do that, you might as well build a new computer and go with an i5 or something. But I guess since you are using the Core 2 Duo to replace a P4, it's worth it. But don't get another Duo. If you are already going to be spending the money on a new CPU, just go with a quad and have a CPU that will last a while.
