What is the best socket to get when getting a Intel i7 processor?
1156 or 1366. This will be for a mild to heavy gaming computer.

Would it better to get a processor that has a Integrated Graphics Core or one without one for a gaming computer? thinking about putting this video card in the computer, XFX HD577AZNDC Radeon HD 5770 XXX Edition Video Card - 1GB GDDR5, PCI-Express 2.0, CrossFireX Ready, Dual DVI, Display Port, HDMI cause it has a core clock of 875 mhz.

I wouldn't go with an i5.

I'd go with a Core i7-860 with a Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3R and a HD5850.

Thats should start you off well.

Just seen the edited post above. The HD5770 is a great budget 5XXX series card. My personal thought is that I can get more power from the previous series for the same money minus DX11. So therefore I would only consider the HD5850 or above.

Ok i was looking at this combo, ASUS P6X58D-E LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with a Intel i7 930. What do you think about that?

It's a very good combination with a HD5850.

That board's a great OC'er.

But again, a Core i7-860 with a P55 chipset will slightly outperform the i7 930 and X58 in gaming.

;)

Uhm, what?

Faster processor + tri channel ram > slower processor + dual channel ram.

Uhm, what?

Faster processor + tri channel ram > slower processor + dual channel ram.

Uhm, yes. The number crunching ability of the i7, X58 chipset and tri-channel RAM is superior.

But the LGA 1156 i7-860+P55 at stock beats a stock 1366 i7 930+X58 in gaming.

^ so does a phenom II, and in a lot of cases, a core 2 duo. It depends on teh game. Heavy CPU physics games with lots of threads will favor the 930, while the rest of games will not.

Get the best graphics card and then think about the CPU.

The GPU is A LOT more important than the CPU in gaming.

Athlon (within reason) + HD 5870 > i7 + HD 5770

What resolution will you be using?
